Short Biography

Pol.Maj. Matchima Romruk, Ph.D. is a criminology scholar and police officer specialising in investigative interviewing, crime prevention, and innovative approaches to justice administration. With a strong academic background and extensive law enforcement experience, she bridges theory and practice to advance the criminal justice system in Thailand. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Chulalongkorn University (2021–2024), where her doctoral research focused on the feasibility of applying investigative interviewing innovations to enhance police investigations and prevent wrongful convictions. She also holds a Master of Social Science in Criminology from the University of Leicester, UK (2019–2021), and a Bachelor of Public Administration from the Royal Police Cadet Academy (2014–2017).

In her professional career, Pol. Capt. Romruk has served in multiple capacities within the Royal Thai Police. As Sub-Inspector (Inquiry) at Samsen Police Station (2017–2023), she conducted criminal inquiries, interviewed suspects and witnesses, and compiled evidence to support justice procedures. She later worked at the Metropolitan Police Division 1, handling police disciplinary cases and making recommendations on misconduct inquiries. She also held leadership responsibility at the Protection and Crowd Control Division, ensuring public safety through proactive risk management during large-scale events. Beyond her police duties, she is active as a Lecturer and a Trainer on investigative interviewing techniques at the Department of Special Investigation. She is also regularly invited to lecture on counter-terrorism and crowd safety at the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand.

Her research interests include investigative interviewing, policing innovation, crime prevention with AI technology, and justice reform. Dedicated to enhancing professional policing standards, she combines her law enforcement expertise with academic scholarship to strengthen investigative integrity, reduce wrongful convictions, and contribute to sustainable security solutions in Thailand and beyond.
