“Urban design and the cultivation of social values must go hand in hand—and we must truly recognize the value of every individual.”
— Assoc. Prof. Kannapa Pongponrat Chieochan, Ph.D.
Creating a “safe city” is not only about designing physical spaces. It must also involve fostering understanding and encouraging meaningful participation among people across society.
From the design of buildings and public spaces to the creation of environments that help reduce opportunities for crime, every element contributes to people’s sense of safety and confidence in their everyday lives.
This idea was further explored during the Safe City Innovators workshop through “Crime Science x Design Thinking: Designing Crime-Free Cities.” The workshop invited participants to analyze risk scenarios and develop approaches to creating safer cities for people from diverse backgrounds.
Because a truly safe city
must be designed for everyone—and must recognize the value of everyone.
