A safe city should not merely be “accessible.” It should be a city where everyone feels that they belong equally.

A safe city should not merely be “accessible.” It should be a city where everyone feels that they belong equally.

In Group Activity 5, participants discussed the experiences of persons with disabilities and people with limited mobility when using public spaces—including accessibility, seeking assistance, and how they feel when sharing those spaces with others.

The activity raised an important question:

“Does society truly see persons with disabilities as an integral part of the city?”

Participants then explored ways to provide appropriate support without making those receiving assistance feel like a burden or marking them as different. They proposed non-stigmatizing support systems and opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate meaningfully and contribute to their communities.

Because true Universal Design
is not simply about providing ramps or accessible facilities.
It is about creating a city that everyone can use together—with dignity and a shared sense of ownership. 🤝
