“safe city,” women’s safety within their communities is a critical issue that must not be overlooked.

When discussing a “safe city,” women’s safety within their communities is a critical issue that must not be overlooked.

In Group Activity 1, participants analyzed real-life situations and experiences faced by women in local communities. They considered where and when risks arise, the factors that contribute to them, and the feelings of insecurity women may experience in their everyday lives.

The group then brainstormed ways to design safer spaces and support systems—helping women feel secure, seek assistance with confidence, and avoid facing difficult situations alone.

The proposed approaches included improving street lighting and CCTV coverage, reducing hidden or poorly visible areas, strengthening local community networks, and establishing safe spaces or trusted individuals whom women can approach for support and securely share their experiences.

This activity demonstrated that a “safe city” cannot be created through security systems alone. It also requires thoughtfully designed spaces and strong community networks that enable people to genuinely look out for one another. 🤝
