On 5 August 2026, the Center for Crime Science, in collaboration with the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), held the opening ceremony of:
The 1st Symposium on Crime Science: Building Thailand’s Crime Science and Justice Innovation Ecosystem
at the Thailand Institute of Justice.
The ceremony began with welcoming remarks and a presentation of TIJ’s vision and strategic direction by Dr. Anuwan Vongpichet, Deputy Executive Director of the Thailand Institute of Justice. She emphasised the importance of promoting People-Centered Justice and advancing justice innovation through collaboration across all sectors.
Assistant Professor Police Colonel Dr. Pipat Chanruam, Director of the Center for Crime Science, then delivered the introductory report and presented the Center’s vision and strategic direction. He highlighted its role in connecting academia, policymakers, and practitioners to develop data-driven and evidence-based knowledge, research, and innovation that can be applied effectively to address real-world crime challenges.
The event was honoured by the presence of Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of the National Research Council of Thailand, who presided over the ceremony and delivered the opening address. She highlighted NRCT’s role in promoting and supporting research and innovation, translating challenges identified by practitioners into research agendas, and facilitating the application of knowledge and research findings in both policy and practice.
The symposium marked a significant milestone in the official launch of the Center for Crime Science and the first step towards establishing a national collaborative platform connecting academia, policymakers, criminal justice agencies, civil society, the private sector, and the innovation community. Together, these stakeholders will help lay the foundations for Thailand’s Crime Science and Justice Innovation Ecosystem.
