Travelling through a city involves more than simply “getting on and arriving at your destination.” Along the way, many points in the journey can make people feel unsafe.
In Group Activity 2, participants examined the public transportation system as a whole—from buses, trains, urban rail, and boats to taxis and motorcycle taxis—including the points where passengers must transfer from one mode of transport to another.

The activity focused on identifying where risks occur and what causes them. Participants considered driver behaviour, vehicle conditions, pick-up and drop-off points, road conditions, transport interchanges, and the surrounding environment.
They then brainstormed ways to make connected journeys safer, including strengthening coordination among responsible agencies, improving service standards, enforcing traffic regulations, and promoting responsible use of public spaces.

The activity highlighted that:
“A safe transport system is not limited to the journey onboard—it must keep people safe from the moment they step outside their homes until they reach their destination.”
